Welcome to the
Cave Family History Society website

The Society was formed in 1976 and has developed from a small group of four Cave descendants to a world-wide membership with members in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA and other countries.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Cave family and to all descendants of, and from, the Cave family (and all its variants) throughout the world.

The main objective of the Society is to maintain an association of those interested in the origin, history and development of the Cave family and its variant names.

Famous Cave's

Sir Basil Shillito Cave KCMG CB FRGS (1865–1931) was a British consul. He was the son of Thomas Cave, a Liberal Member of Parliament, and one of his brothers was George Cave who would become a Conservative Home Secretary and a Viscount.

Basil Cave worked for the Foreign Office as a civil servant and was appointed Vice-Consul of British East Africa in 1891. In 1893 he was placed in command of a number of soldiers during civil disorder on Zanzibar and in 1895 was appointed Consul to the country.
